Meta Announces Cancellation of Products and Services

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg once promoted the "Metaverse" as the company's long-term vision, even changing the company's name from Facebook to Meta. Two months before the name change, he ambitiously introduced "Horizon Workrooms," describing it as a future virtual office for collaboration. However, this vision has now come to an end.

According to The Verge, Meta has officially announced that it will stop Horizon Workrooms as a standalone app on February 16, 2026. Additionally, sales for Meta Horizon’s enterprise services and the business version of Meta Quest will stop on February 20, 2026.

This news comes as Meta reportedly cut about 10% of its Reality Labs team, affecting over 1,000 people. These changes show that Zuckerberg’s vision for the Metaverse has shifted. VR headsets are no longer the only core focus; the company is moving toward mobile devices and smart glasses.

In fact, this shift was already visible when Meta closed three of its VR game studios. Experts say that while Meta will still develop the Metaverse, it will no longer focus solely on the "fully immersive VR headsets" it originally described.

Meta confirmed that when Horizon Workrooms closes, all related data will be deleted. They suggest users switch to alternatives like Arthur, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom Workplace. However, the Meta Quest Remote Desktop App will still be available for those who want to use a virtual multi-monitor setup. As for existing enterprise customers, they can continue using their services until January 4, 2030, and their licenses will become free starting February 16, 2026.
