Shanghai Port launched its first premium foreign trade shipping route of the year on Jan 5, creating a faster maritime connection with Southeast Asia.

Named the Thailand Silk Road Express, the service is operated by Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping (Group) Co Ltd and links Shanghai with key ports including Ningbo, Shekou, Tokyo, Yokohama, Laem Chabang, and Bangkok.

Four newly deployed 1900 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) vessels serve the route, enabling cargo to be shipped from Shanghai to Laem Chabang in seven days, and from Laem Chabang to Tokyo in 11 days.

According to a representative from Jinjiang Shipping, the premium service is designed to provide reliable schedules and comprehensive support, meeting growing demand for high-quality sea freight services while supporting Chinese companies in their overseas expansion.

To support the new route, the Waigaoqiao Immigration Inspection Station has introduced a customized clearance system, strengthening proactive communication with relevant stakeholders and streamlining inspection procedures to reduce port turnaround times.
