[CNMO Tech News] — Market research firm Omdia has released its Large-Size Display Market Tracker Report, forecasting that global shipments of large-size displays (9 inches and above) will increase by 2.8% year-on-year in 2025.
The report shows that large-size LCD panel shipments are expected to reach 873.9 million units, up 2.2% from 2024. While shipments of LCD TVs and traditional monitors are projected to fall by 3.4% and 1.8% respectively, demand for tablet and notebook LCD panels will rise sharply — up 17.5% and 4.2%, becoming the main growth drivers of the LCD segment.
By contrast, the large-size OLED market will see much stronger momentum, with total shipments expected to grow 19.0% year-on-year in 2025. OLED panels for monitors and laptops will record the fastest growth, up 60.9% and 45.9% respectively, while tablet OLED shipments may edge down 2.3% and OLED TV panels will grow modestly by 3.1%.
The market shows clear regional strategic differentiation. In the LCD sector, Chinese panel makers are expanding their presence in IT display markets by building new Gen 8.6 IPS LCD production lines, while companies such as LG Display and Sharp focus on structural optimization to enhance profitability. In the OLED segment, Korean manufacturers are accelerating their expansion into monitors and laptops to offset the slowdown in the OLED TV market, while leveraging their strengths in premium tablets to continue supplying major clients such as Apple and Samsung.
In terms of regional share, mainland China is expected to account for 67.6% of global large-size LCD shipments in 2025, followed by Taiwan (21.0%) and South Korea (8.1%). BOE is projected to lead with a 37.1% market share, followed by CSOT (TCL China Star) and Innolux.
For large-size OLED panels, Korean manufacturers will remain dominant, with 83.7% of total shipments, while mainland China will take the remaining 16.3%. Samsung Display is expected to lead the market with 54.3%, followed by LG Display (29.4%) and EDO (13.9%).
From a revenue perspective, Chinese manufacturers are projected to account for 83.7% of total revenue in the large-size display market. The top three companies will be BOE (29.7%), CSOT (20.2%), and LG Display (12.4%).
