Shanghai adds new national 4A tourist attraction

The Caojing Shuike Scenic Area in Jinshan district has been designated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction.

Covering 37.46 square kilometers, the scenic area centers on the 3.66-square-kilometer Shuiku village, historically known as "Shuike Li", which means "reservoir village" in Chinese, due to its dense network of waterways.

Nearly 40 percent of the village is covered by water, featuring 41 rivers totaling 28 kilometers, along with more than 70 islands and peninsulas. This creates a unique landscape of "islands within rivers and lakes within islands."

Branded as "China's coolest modern art water town", the scenic area offers three themed routes focusing on water, agriculture, and art. Visitors can enjoy a combination of water-based tourism, science education, creative study tours, leisure and wellness, and eco-agricultural sightseeing.

Visitors can take light water excursions on specialty boat rides or try kayaking, paddleboarding, and other water activities at the kayak base.

The 50-mu (3.33-hectare) Meet Lotus Park features dozens of lotus varieties. From above, the park's layout resembles a blooming lotus flower.

Guests can also unwind at Shangpin Book Cafe, enjoying a book while sipping tea or coffee, or stay in boutique accommodations.

At a popularization center for traditional Chinese herbal medicine, visitors can explore nearly 6,000 square meters of planting grounds, where hundreds of medicinal herbs are cultivated.

The Wetland Park offers scenic boat tours, providing a tranquil escape for nature lovers.
