Why is Shanghai?

In May, 2014, when Big Lighting All Media and Shanghai Modern International Exhibition Co., Ltd. declared that they would join hands to hold the Shanghai International Lighting Expo from March 11 to 14, 2015, not a few of the industrial insiders regarded it as inconceivable on the grounds that from the development of the lighting industry exhibition, it is natural to select the Pearl River Delta area as the venue therefor. Does Shanghai have any advantages to hold such a fair?

As a matter of fact, it is just the right time to hold such kind of event in Shanghai!

l  The 2-hour radius Yangtze River Delta Economic Area: With uniquely advantageous geographical location

Any people familiar with the geography and economic development of China know that as the international metropolis at the front of the list of Chinese cities, Shanghai is unarguably one of the best cities in the world regardless of the reputation or the overall strength. From the perspective of the international influence, Shanghai, a city located at the Yangtze River Delta, poses a much bigger influence than any cities in the Pearl River Delta area.

From the angle of economic environment, the Pearl River Delta mainly relies on the economic support of all the prefecture-level cities of the Guangdong Province, while its neighboring provinces such as Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangxi contribute little thereto, resulting in the fact the Pearl River Delta outshines other regions of the province and the comparative backwardness of the east, west and north of the province. Furthermore, the regions in the periphery lag much behind. But it is entirely another story in the Yangtze River Delta. In addition to the central city Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong all occupy a leading place among all provinces in China in terms of economic development and strength. As far as the whole Eastern China is concerned, the economic aggregate thereof cannot be underestimated. That is to say, just from the angle of economic aggregate, there is a high-level economic strength and vitality in Shanghai and its neighboring areas.

Based on the land transportation time, Shanghai and the important cities in the Yangtze River Delta, such as Suzhou, Nantong, Wuxi, Changzhou, Huzhou, Hangzhou and Jiaxing, have formed a 30-min radius economic circle; a 1-hour radius economic circle with the pan-Yangtze River Delta cities including Yangzhou, Nanjing, Shaoxing and Ningbo; and a 2-hour radius economic circle with Hefei and Taizhou, etc.

Given that Shanghai has the core regional advantages of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle and the whole Eastern China Economic Circle, the fair in Shanghai will influence the lighting industry in the whole Eastern China. To each lighting enterprise, this will undoubtedly become an exhibition at its door, not only convenient in transportation. It will more effectively attract and secure clients.

l  The high-speed railways extend in all directions: Clients from all over the world are welcome here

The Yangtze River Delta and Eastern China constitute the largest economic zone in China as well as Asia, as well as a booming zone with a tremendous economic growth. This zone is densely populated, with a prosperous market. The areas in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai are home to a multitude of excellent lighting enterprises. The lighting enterprise active in all links of the production chain are in urgent demand of a powerful demonstration platform right now.

For a number of people who are engaged in the lighting industry, the main traveling methods include plane and high-speed railway. Currently in Shanghai, there are two airports: Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport, which operate a lot of flights between China and other destinations throughout the world. In the respect of high-speed railways, Shanghai boasts such facilities in the directions of the south, west and north: in the southern direction the high-speed railway comes from Shenzhen to Shanghai; in the western direction the high-speed railway comes from Chengdu to Shanghai via Wuhan; and in the northern direction the high-speed railway comes directly from Beijing to Shanghai. Supported by such high-speed railway systems, it is easy for the lighting enterprises from all over the country to come to visit the Shanghai International Lighting Expo.

In the respect of the field service at the exhibition venue, Shanghai boasts rich experience. Whether hotels or food and drinks, or whether transportation or travel service, it is very convenient in Shanghai and even in the Yangtze River Delta area. In particular, the exhibition complex of the 2015 Shanghai International Lighting Expo has given full consideration in advance for hotel service, conference service and food and drinks, etc. thanks to the newly-constructed exhibition complex, giving the feeling of reassurance and comforts to the participants from the manufacturing and commercial circles.

l  Window of the international trade: Influence on the whole world

Shanghai is the center of economy, transportation, science and technology, industry, finance, trade, convention and exhibition and shipping in China. Its gross GDP occupies the first place among Chinese cities. Shanghai has always been the important harbor for domestic and international trade and one of the major windows for the international community to learn about the economy and industry in China. A couple of global industrial and trade centers have selected to settle in Shanghai. All of these have justified that Shanghai plays a significant role in the international trade and exchange. Therefore, it will be able to fully introduce the internationally-advanced lighting technology and business concept through the holding of the Shanghai International Lighting Expo.

In 2010, Shanghai held the first World Expo in China. The successful holding of the World Expo has vigorously propelled the internationalization of the Shanghai exhibition industry. The whole World Expo area had provided nearly 200 exhibition halls for the participants across the world, among which the design of exhibition halls, selection of themes, application of materials, planning and management of exhibition have provided samples and standards for the development of the participants, enabling the further connection between the exhibition in Shanghai and the international communities. They have injected new energy into the exhibition industry and relevant industries in Shanghai, providing the fertile soil of development for Shanghai to build itself into the world-grade expo city.

As the flagship of the exhibition industry, the National Convention and Exhibition Center made its presence in Shanghai. The constructor Shanghai Eastbest & Lansheng International (Group) Co., Ltd. thereof was previously the constructor, administrator and operator of the Expo Center and the theme halls, the two permanent venues and the China Pavilion of the Shanghai Expo. Through the Shanghai Expo, Shanghai Eastbest & Lansheng International (Group) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Shanghai Modern International Exhibition Co., Ltd. have accumulated rich international client resources, rendering assistance and protection for the successful holding of the Shanghai International Lighting Expo which is to be held by the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai) and providing a zero-distance exhibition platform for internationally-advanced enterprises.

l  Shanghai exhibition industry given great importance: Lighting exhibition requires a commanding height

The Yangtze River Delta area with Shanghai as the center and the support of important cities such as Nanjing and Hangzhou has formed an exhibition industry belt, which is of a high starting point with the great support of the government, the reasonable planning and arrangement and the vigorous trade development. It greatly benefits from the regional advantages and industrial structure, with a great potential for development. With exhibition as the core business and the improvement of relevant supporting facilities such as advertising, decoration, logistics, information, leasing, food and drinks and hotels, a production chain of exhibition industry has been formed in Shanghai.

The number of exhibitions held in Shanghai occupies the front place in China. Last year, the total exhibition income of the city accounted for nearly 50% of the whole country. Relevant data showed that 798 exhibitions were held in Shanghai in 2013, including 247 international exhibitions and 551 exhibitions of the domestic nature. In 2013, the exhibition areas occupied by foreign enterprises accounted for 26% of the total of the international exhibitions in Shanghai; the marketization operation rate was 97%; and the specialization degree was 92%.

To boost the development of the exhibition industry in Shanghai, the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai) was incorporated with the great support of the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal Government, with the investment of more than 20 billion yuan jointly made thereby. Its overall floorage is 1.47 million sqm. Upon completion, the center will provide an exhibition area as large as 500,000 sqm, thus becoming the single building and convention and exhibition complex with the largest area in the world. The complex sits in the west of the core area of the Hongqiao Commercial Zone in Shanghai, only 1.5 kilometers away from the Hongqiao Transportation Junction and connecting with the Hongqiao High-speed Railway Station and the Hongqiao Airport by metro. The expressways in the neighboring areas extend in all directions. Passengers can reach any important cities in the Yangtze River Delta area within 2 hours.

With the availability of the excellent macro-environment, the lighting industry in Shanghai and its neighboring areas is urgently in demand of a high-end and large-scale exhibition in Shanghai. The success of such an exhibition will unarguably be a great boost for both the exhibition industry in Shanghai and the lighting industry in East China and even the lighting industry in China on the grounds that it will not only provide more convenience to the lighting factories and companies in China, but can let them learn more about the lighting industry in the Yangtze River Delta area which is different from that in the Pearl River Delta area.

Afterword   In essence, the Shanghai International Lighting Expo intends to create a business platform whereby participating factories and companies as well as buyers can seek and conduct businesses in a down-to-the-earth manner. This is also the basic concept of Big Lighting All Media. Therefore, Big Lighting All Media selected Shanghai Modern International Exhibition Co., Ltd. which is the most influential and powerful exhibition operating institution as its partner. Both parties will pour in excellent resources thereinto to gather all the core factories and companies in the lighting industry in East China as well as the whole country to create the First Lighting Exhibition in East China.
